Theme:  Stewardship of our bodies (4)

Memory Verse: 2Co 5:10  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Topic: Our bodies as God’s Members

Today’s Reading :

1Co 6:20  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s

2Ti 2:20-21

20  But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

Words of the Ministry:

As we continue our study on stewardship of the body, today we come to the matter of we presenting our bodies as the members of God. The bible teaches that the sacrificial death of Christ was to pay for our debt of sin and death and by so doing we become his. God bought us through the redemptive work of Christ; we are no more our own. Our bodies belong to God. This may be a little contrary to what many believe, they say salvation is free and cost us nothing but as we look closely at the scriptures, we realize it is not true because salvation cost God his son and by that transaction God now owns our lives, it cost us our lives. When one realizes this, we would rest because all we are is of God, by God and for God because you have been bought.  Your glory, promotion, money, achievement etc now has a new owner, God.

By that purchase, we become the responsibility of God, as Jesus our lord is caring for the church that he bought, we on the other hand owe him a responsibility as we are his possession. We are therefore meant to use our lives to please him and especially in this case our bodies. Many saints don’t realize that their hands, mouth, feet or even their mind now belongs to God. That is why whatever income we get with our mind and skill, our physical body labor or whatever achievement we attain among men must be to the glory of God. We as his possession own nothing and can boast of nothing. We can be likened to the stewards that has been entrusted with the custody and management of our body parts, we must give an account to the owner on the last day.

We saw yesterday that man was created to contain and expresses God like the gloves. Saints, as vessels who have been bought, we must deliberately purge ourselves to please the master and to fit every good work (2 thim 2.20-21). The burden to purge ourselves and be made worthy as a vessel unto honor and not unto dishonor is in our hands. We must ensure we sanctify our mind by renewing it with the word of God and making it useful to the master, we must also ensure our bodies is kept pure without spot nor wrinkle as our God is holy. That then settles the question of drunkenness, misuse of the tongue, impure and evil thought, masturbation, filthy television programs etc. Our bodies, not only our Spirit is God’s property. May you not be guilty of misuse when he comes. Shalom.
