Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday, we learnt that God chose to live in man as his preferred dwelling place. I like to emphasize a little more on this matter as we consider our stewardship as God’s temple. Back in Genesis, we see the created man in a garden and the Lord visiting him in the cool of the day for fellowship. One would immediately wonder why the God of the universe kept visiting the created man for fellowship, at a closer look we would then realize that God was in need, he needed a dwelling place or what we may call a house. From Genesis to Revelation although we read that God is in heaven we would never see a verse that says God’s house is in heaven but as we read the scriptures, we see that the almighty God has a house, the first house he had was at the tabernacle and then the temple and finally in man, man is the resting place of God and that is why he created man in his image and likeness just as the glove is created in the image of the hand to contain the hand, man is in God’s image as Spirit to Contain God who is Spirit (Jhn4.24).
That then brings me to the matter of stewardship. To have a clear view on the matter, we would draw some reference to the Old Testament priesthood. In the Old Testament, only the high priest could enter the holy of holies once a year, it was the innermost part of the temple housing the ark of covenant, it was a dark room with no windows, it was a secret place secluded by a curtain. The high priest had to be sanctified with the blood of animals, he had to put on a special cloth and he also needed to bring a burning incense with its smoke being a barrier from a direct view of God. In the New Testament, Christ our high priest has opened the way of the true temple with our physical bodies representing the outer court, the soul representing the holy place and our Spirit representing the Holy of Holies, the dwelling of God. God’s secret place, the place Jesus said we enter to in prayer (Mat 6.6-7). Now we are expected to come boldly to the holy of holies through the sacrificial death of Christ.
Dear saint, the privilege to the holy of Holies then comes at a price, the saints are to enter the temple to fellowship with God in their spirit through a living way, we are to enter by putting on a special garment which is Christ (Rom 13.14), we must also present an incenses to God which is Christ as our life (Gal 2.20), a life we live by faith. We must never take the matter of meeting with God loosely as God is Holy. As I emphasized earlier we are God’s image as Spirit and God dwells in us with our Spirit, today’s reading then says that because he dwells in our Spirit we have become one, our Spirit and the Spirit of God has become one Spirit as a result we must detest evil and be holy as God who is one Spirit with us is Holy. May the Lord grant us light.
