Theme: Overcoming Deception (1)

Memory Verse: Col 2:8  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Topic: We are in the last days

Today’s Reading:  1Ti 4:1-3

1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

3  Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

Words of the Ministry:

Saints, this week, we would be considering the matter of overcoming deception especially as the Lord’s coming draws near. The bible severally warns us to be careful because the enemy of our soul has his agents everywhere. In the gospels we see a parable paralleling the last days, in Mat 13.25-30, the account said while men slept, the enemy came to plant tares in the midst of the wheat. So, in today’s church meeting, we have several teachers, apostles and prophets. This deception did exist during the later years of the apostles so much that Jesus congratulated the Church in Ephesus for exposing false apostles.

It is therefore necessary that we believers guard our hearts and the church from such ravaging wolves that are after the soul of the sheep. The battle that began in the garden with Eve and the serpent is still on going as the sons of the serpent are still making such efforts to deceive the Church. We must therefore wake up to our responsibility as we are already in the last day which began since the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Joel 2.28, Act 2.17). In Dan 12.4, the bible says knowledge would increase and people would be running to and fro seeking it and so would falsehood prevail. It is the duty of the believer to therefore guard his heart and make sure it is not a fertile ground for deception to grow.

Deception means an act carried out that is insincere, hypocritical, underhanded, false, dishonest, treacherous, sneaking, double-dealing, tricky, cunning, and crafty. Persons that do so are altogether untrustworthy. As Jeremiah 17:9 says, our heart is desperately sick or weak, implying it knows better but deceives anyway. Who can fathom its corruption, manifested in the incessant transgression of this comandment? We would be looking at what today’s deception really entails, the effects and how to overcome it within the week, join us as we consider the way of personal victory and how to help others.
