19  Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20  For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Jas 1:26  If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

 Words of the Ministry:

Yesterday we saw a few principles outlined in the bible on how we can manage our anger, today I want us to consider some ways by which God may deal with us to help us in overcoming anger. Anger is an archenemy of our soul, we saw in previous lessons that a wrathful man would not inherit the kingdom of God, we also learnt that the bible says we should avoid the company of a man given to anger. From our daily experiences, we would have realized that God doesn’t just use the word to correct us, he also deals with us using persons and situations around us. This he does to gain us organically so that we become living epistles to others. Check with your experience, the way you had victory over certain weaknesses was not only because you read the bible but because God allowed some circumstance come your way that left an indelible mark on you.

Many saints don’t realize that their spouse, boss, children, landlord, neighbor or their in-laws are the instrument of victory placed around them. Many complain of those around them as the reason for their anger, but they never realize that those persons are actually the instrument that can reveal to them that they have anger issues and need help. God places them there to reveal our real self so we can see how far we are different from him. How did we know Jesus is loving, chaste, holy, and compassionate? It was because of how he dealt with people and situations around him. Many times, when we pray that God should take away the thorn in our flesh causing anger, God replies by saying his grace is sufficient.

The goal here is mastery, when we grow in life, those things that irritate us wouldn’t matter anymore. It would seem as though they don’t exist, the husband in a health family of a young couple could get angry at his wife at almost everything but the same couple after 15-20 years of living together seem not to really care abut some of those matters, not necessarily because the spouse have changed rather because he has grown to not even see same as a matter. That is a typical example of our maturity in life, the argument over change, disrespect, waste of resources, not keeping to time etc would eventually not matter as we mature in life, even when we get angry, we wouldn’t sin because God would have perfected his work in us, at such point we would have learnt to speak a consider what we want to say before speaking, we speak with clarity and empathy and we don’t read meaning to every word heard. Shalom.
