Today’s Reading:

Proverbs 16:32: “Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.”

Proverbs 15:1: “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Words of the Ministry:

Yesterday, we saw the various dangers of uncontrolled anger. Today we want to consider some biblical principles on managing anger. I like us to prayerfully consider these points and remain open to the Holy Spirit for further insight and guidance.

1. Acknowledge Your Anger

We did learn that anger is common to all but in our anger, we shouldn’t sin, we saw the differences between righteous and sinful anger by looking at Jesus’ example. To manage anger, the first thing we must do is to acknowledge we are angry when we really are and do not try to suppress it by trying to convince ourselves or anyone that we are not angry. When we tell ourselves the truth, managing anger gets easier.

2. Control Your Anger

The bible encourages us to be slow to speak and quick to listen (Jam 1.19-120), the next step is to ensure we control our anger and don’t let it control us especially through our speech. We must at this stage avoid impulsive reactions that escalate can anger. This could be achieved by taking time to think and reflect before responding to avoid saying something harmful or doing something that may lead to future regrets

3. Seek Forgiveness and Reconciliation

We should let go of anger by forgiving those who have wronged you and seeking to restore broken relationships.  One of the motivations of sinful anger is unforgiveness. We must seek the Holy Spirit help to see us through the hurt and pain, only him can help us forgive at such times. In Colossians 3:13: the bible says “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone”. It isn’t easy but by the holy spirit help we can overcome.

4. Avoid Situations That Trigger Anger

You should remove yourself from situations or individuals that provoke you to anger or temptation. The bible in Proverbs 22:24-25:  says “Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.” We must therefore Identify triggers, avoid unnecessary conflicts, and set healthy boundaries.

5. Commit Your Emotions to God in Prayer

Share your frustrations and anger with God and allow Him to guide and comfort you. In Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” And Psalm 37:8: “Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.” We must Spend time in prayer and meditation, asking God to replace your anger with peace, you can also Pray for the person who hurt you, release grudges, and strive for reconciliation when possible.

In conclusion, we should not let the devil take advantage of us by shifting our focus from God’s bigger purpose for our lives. We must always remind ourselves that the devil is a thief wanting to steal our relationship, peace and joy by creating such situations that would keep us angry, sinful and vulnerable to his attacks. The Holy Spirit on the other hand is there to keep us strong. May the Lord grant us light.
