Topic:  The Role of Jesus in Transforming Anger

Today’s Reading:

Heb 12:1-4

1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3  For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

4  Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

 Words of the Ministry:

Through the week, we have considered God’s definition of anger and the dangers associated with it, we saw basic principles of managing anger and yesterday we also saw how God uses our anger to conform us to his image through several dealings. Today I intend to look at the role Jesus plays in transforming us. It is the father’s intention that we all grow into the fullness and maturity of Jesus Christ, we must therefore look unto him in time of help. Jesus as God’s incarnate became a man to show us an example of how we should live our lives, he was tempted but sinned not because he lived his life though the power of the indwelling Spirit which every believer also  has, we can therefore live a life pleasing to God if we walk in obedience as he did.

We have not been left alone to figure it out, he is with us all through the journey. The underlisted are some of the ways Jesus works in us to transform us and deliver us from sinful anger

     A. Christ provides an example.

As we saw within the week, Jesus lived an exemplary life, he was slow to anger, he was full of compassion and always acted in love. Even when he got angry, it was in righteousness. Jesus teaching in Mat 5.44 said we should love our enemies and pray for those who hurts us. When we reflect on his person and teaching, we see how far away we are from the mark, it helps us to bow to him for more help.

  1. Christ provides the power.

Christ isn’t just instructing us from the outside, he also provides the needed help inwardly too. In the gospel and in acts, he promised his disciples that the Holy Spirit who would teach them abut God and help them to obey God. Its obvious that with our strength we can’t overcome anger or any sin but the bible make us understand that In Gal 5.22-23, the Holy Spirit is in us to bears the fruit of righteousness which include patience and love. In Phil 4.13, Paul sharing his testimony said he can do all things through Christ as the Spirit that strengthens him, so is our testimony, we can do all this including living victoriously above sin.

  • Christ brings ultimate peace.

One of the titles of Jesus is that he is the prince of peace, true peace is found in a relationship with Jesus, who reconciles us to God and others (John 14:27).  As we allow Jesus to have his way with us, we realize how easier it becomes to live at peace with all men and in holiness because Christ radiates his peace through us, persons that were hitherto difficult, that easily irritate you, getting you angry would gradually be seen differently because Christ has achieved his work of love, forbearance and forgiveness in you.

In conclusion, anger is an emotion we all face, but it does not have to control us. Through Christ, we can transform anger into an opportunity for growth, reconciliation, and spiritual maturity. Let us commit to handling anger in a way that glorifies God and builds healthy relationships.
