Words of the Ministry:

Yesterday we saw the requirement of righteous anger and emphasis was made that such anger is never because of self, ego, pride, selfishness or unforgiveness. It is also stirred from God’s righteousness. We learnt that that should be the case of the saints, following Jesus’s example, we must not be given to uncontrolled anger. Today, I would like to comment on some of the dangers of uncheck anger. While anger is natural to the fallen man, it is a weapon of mans destruction that must be avoided. Below is a short list of some of the consequences of unchecked anger, I believe while you go through them, the Holy Spirit would stir your heart over specifics that may concern you.

The danger of unchecked anger includes the following:

II. The Dangers of Unchecked Anger

  1. It can lead to sin

If anger is not checked, it would naturally lead to sin and that is why the bible warns believers to get angry and sin not (Eph 4.26). As we read scriptures, we see the first murder case recorded in the bible, Cain killed his brother because of uncontrolled anger (Gen 4.5-8). Many have killed their spouses, friends, children, maid, colleagues because of anger.

B. It gives the devil a foothold

Anger that is not resolved can grow into bitterness, resentment, or hatred (Ephesians 4:27). These emotions disrupt relationships with God and others. Many homes have been broken because of untamed anger. When anger is allowed to fester, it can lead to malice and malice to infidelity which could lead to divorce  etc. The devil attacks home easily when the parties are not united.

C. It damages relationships.

Anger pushes people away, creating division instead of unity. Proverbs 29:22: “An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins.” It is therefore in our best interest to tame it as soon as possible. Anger beclouds people giving them a false interpretation of the situation and before they know it, a lot of damage would have been done.

D. It denies us of God’s promises.

The account of Moses whom the bible called the meekest man during his time is quite instructive, out of anger he disobeyed God (Num 20.10-12), Moses as a result lost the promise land. Check with your experience, how many promises have you lost because of anger, not being able to tame anger has left many to suffer delay in fulfillment of God’s promises and many other ssorrows.

E. It puts us in danger of Hell

The bible warns against the works of the flesh in Gal 5.19-20 and listed anger (wrath), it concluded that those that walk in the flesh would not inherit the kingdom of God. We can therefore see that anger is one of the instruments of the devil who seek to destroy us as his mission is to steal, kill and destroy (Jhn 10.10)

In conclusion, the bible warns against even making friends with an angry man as one could be negatively influenced. We must therefore make effort to ensure we live worthy of our profession in Christ as anger would spoil our testimonies. May the Lord grant us light.
