Memory Verse for the week: Joh 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Today’s Reading: Mat 5.14-15
Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Words of the Ministry:
This week as we consider the theme, I like us to see exactly how God sees us. From our today’s reading we can immediately deduce that although the church was not yet born, Jesus wasn’t referring to any individual Christian but the church at large, this we see from verse 14 that says the light of the world is a city, this city is the universal Church made up of all the saints all over the world. The next verse then says the same city is like a candle, by using a single candle we can again see that God sees us as one body, although we are many, we are all part of the universal Church and this universal Church is the city of the Lord, God’s organic building being built into the new Jerusalem (Rev 21.2).
As the Light of the world, it then suggests that the world without the church is in darkness and suffers everything associated with darkness, it is therefore of necessity that we rise up to the occasion to save this collapsing world. Saints, we read in Genesis chapter 1 that after creation, the world became formless and void and darkness was upon the face of the earth, God had to do a recreation by introducing Light. We are in the same situation today, the world is in chaos under the control of the devil and that is why God has brought you and I into the world to set it free, to bring it hope, to rescue the young and old, to deliver the oppress and establish the kingdom of the prince of peace.
After the fall of man, the whole of mankind was refereed to as slaves to sin, under the influence of Satan the slave master (Rom 6.20), God had to send his son who came as the light to set men free. God is counting on you and I to set our world free, it is not the task set apart for preacher but everyone that names the name of the lord, we have been recruited and sent by God to establish his will. God therefore sees you as the hope of the world, the solution to global warming, health challenges, wars, poverty, unemployment, sin, unbelief, and every other work of the devil and his sons. God therefore wants to give you influence in governance, industry, politics, scientific world etc Just like the lighted candle that can’t be hid under a bushel.
