Words of the Ministry:

Today we would be looking at the power of God’s forgiveness through the life of Rahab the prostitute. The city of Jericho was one of the central and most prominent places for idol worship in those days. The Canaanites worshipped Ashtaroth, the goddess of the moon. Rahab was living in the midst of the vilest and most abominable Canaanite religion which she was part of. Some commentators said Rahab was not an ordinary prostitute but she could have been a temple prostitute. This line of work, in the eyes of Canaanites, is acceptable but inexcusable and abominable to God. In our society today, prostitutes are looked down upon. Some people see them as one of the lowest of people who don’t deserve to be part of any of God’s church today or enjoy God’s grace.

In Hebrews 11, the bible mentioned only two women among the heroes of faith, the first was Sarah who obviously lived a godly life and the other was Rahab who was tagged the prostitute and was included in the genealogy of Jesus Christ. We see Rahab who lived a vile life after her repentance was genuinely converted. Rahab did not just ask for forgiveness, but she showed her repentant attitude by turning away from the society, culture, and way of life she knew all her life. Repentance comes from the Greek word, metanoia. It means a reversal or change. Repentance is asking for God’s forgiveness and having the determination to have a 180 degree turn from our sins. Repentance would NEVER be complete without changing our way of life. No matter how sorry and remorseful we are, if we don’t have the evident change that God is looking for, all of that would be in vain.

Saints, no matter how far away we may have gone, if we repent, turning away from our wicked ways, our God is willing to forgive us. The power in the blood of Jesus is not restricted by our opinion and godly character, even when we think our sin is too vile and can’t be washed by the blood, God thinks otherwise, he says when I see the blood I would pass over. The most important thing is to repent and have a change of ways, it’s not enough to be sorrowful but have a godly sorrow that leads to repentance and transformation. This must also be included in our gospel preaching, God has not written anyone off no matter how evil and sinful he or she may be, if the individual repents and is converted, he would enjoy the benefits of the new birth and be a partaker of the new covenant, may God grant us light.
