Life Capsule for Today Date 14th August, 2024
Theme: RAHAB: A story of divine transformation (4)
Memory Verse: Rom 8:29
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. NKJV
Topic: Rahab extending salvation to her household
Today’s Reading: Josh 6:22-25
22 But Joshua had said to the two men who had spied out the country, “Go into the harlot’s house, and from there bring out the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.” 23 And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel. 24 But they burned the city and all that was in it with fire. Only the silver and gold, and the vessels of bronze and iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord. 25 And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father’s household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
Amen today would be looking at another aspect of the life of Rahab, from our last lesson we saw Rahab exercising faith as a result of her Godly fear. She held unto the words of the spies and she tied a red scarlet thread by her window. Today I like to look at her attitude towards her family and her loved once on hearing the news that Jericho was to be destroyed. We can say Rahab was a new convert that just accepted the gospel message as we looked at yesterday but immediately she did, she quickly informed her father, mother, brothers and all she had was brought under her roof, by virtue of that, Rahab was able to protect her family.
Keep in mind that Rahab was an immoral woman who naturally would have been doubted by almost anybody. Aside that fact that she didn’t keep the gospel to herself, she also went on to convince her family that she was a changed person and that the gospel is true. For some saints with unbelieving family members, you can easily relate with this. It is often more difficult to convince your immediate family and friends about their need for salvation than an outsider. While an outsider may easily take your word for it, a family member would need to be convinced with your lifestyle especially if they knew you with such a trade as Rahab’s. We may therefore say that Rahab did not only receive the gospel but had a drastic change in life especially because she never knew the day the judgement of God was coming on Jericho just as we await the Lords return not knowing the exact day, she couldn’t have continued her trade as the Israelites could come in anytime.
Saints we have some lessons to learn from Rahab’s conversion. Many todays find it difficult to share the gospel to family and friends, while some don’t see the need, some others know that their lifestyle is a hindrance. It is abnormal as a Christian to be comfortable that your extended family is unsaved. What measures have you taken to see to their salvation, how would you feel seeing they are destroyed while you are saved. Could it be that you have not persisted enough or prayed for them enough or could it even be your approach or life style. Rahab got her family saved after she was saved, that cost her natural relationships, her business, her time and some immoral gains. Are you ready to sacrifice that much for your friends, family and colleagues, may the lord grant us light. Salom, please keep our next week Peniel Encounter in mind, come with family and friends, the theme is Divine Encounter.
