14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
Words of the Ministry
Today we would be considering another witness that we are saved and that is the matter of love for the brethren. In our contemporary world, we are brought up to love ourselves, our family and those that we perceive to love us, in addition we may also love some persons based on certain qualities they have or benefits we may gain. The new life changes all of that as we notice that we begin to love the saints not because we are related by blood but because of the oneness of the Spirit. We love to be in the company of other believers and their burden begins to bother us just like that of our blood relations. We can therefore be sure we are saved as we love God and our brethren (1 Jhn 4.20). Check with your experience, before you were saved, you cared little for the brethren or what anyone said about God but after salvation, you get bothered that why would someone have such a wrong impression about God or even try to harm the brethren.
From our today’s reading, we again see the distinction in salvation triggered love as compared to our natural love. Our natural love is self-centered, it is selective and based on what could be gotten in return but when our love is from the indwelling Spirit, it is firstly towards God and then towards the brethren. Dear saints, check with your experience. You must have noticed a change in your love life towards the saint, now you can pray for the saints with a genuine desire to see a change, you aer willing to part with some money to help the needy saints or meet a need in the local Church, you can fellowship with the brethren regardless of the class differences and your love towards them is not based on what you would get in return. Hallelujah for our love centered faith, hallelujah, the tree of life that bears love lives in us. Please keep in mind our once-a-month physical meeting. May the Lord grant us light.
