Words of the Ministry
Yesterday we saw the witness of the word concerning the assurance of our salvation. We did say the word of God is dependable and true and as the bible says, whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Today we look at something internal as the witness of the word is external. We are considering the witness of the Spirit which is internal. The bible teaches that at salvation, the Spirit of God comes into our spirit making us one Spirit (1 Cor 6.17). The Spirit within us also assures us of our salvation. The Spirit within us bears witness of our salvation as 1Jn 5:10a says, He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself.
Concerning the witness of the Spirit, many may say they don’t feel it but if we look deep within us, we notice that our Spirit indeed bears witness that we are saved, Rom 8.16 says the Spirit itself bears witness with our Spirit that we are the children of God. That simple means whenever we turn to our Spirit and make a statement of faith, our spirit speaks bearing witness. A simple illustration can be made using today’s reading, now that you are saved can you yell loud saying Jesus is accursed? Many that are unsaved can say this without a second thought. Another illustration is to yell loud saying I am not a child of God, again you would find this difficult to say and if you force yourself, you notice a contrary voice within you rebuking and resisting you.
Saints, we must be willing to believe what the bible and the spirit says, what happened to us at salvation is real. The world calls what it sees real but to us even what is spiritual is much more real. The Spirit of God in us brings us the Life and light of God, at that moment, we are saved, born of God and born into the kingdom. Our salvation is not based on the opinion of men and our current perfection rather it is based on the word of God. It doesn’t matter if we are not satisfied with the sacrificial blood of Christ, the Bible said even in the old testament, when God sees the blood he is satisfied so even if you not satisfied, God is. May the Lord grant us light.
