Memory Verse: Rev 22:12  And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Topic: Joseph of Arimathea carried for the body of Christ with his influence and wealth

Today’s Reading:Joh 19:38-42

38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

39  And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

40  Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

41  Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.

42  There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

 Words of the Ministry:

Today as we continue our lesson on silent labors, we would be looking into the life of a man called Joseph who was from Arimathea, the bible records that he was a prominent member of the Jewish council (Mark 15:43), he didn’t consent to the Sanhedrin’s “decision or deed” to crucify Jesus. He was a very rich and influential disciple of Jesus although he followed at a distance, he wasn’t numbered with the twelve or even the seventy but he loved Jesus with all his heart while he was awaiting and hoping for the kingdom of God” (Luke 23:51).

The account of Joseph could be found it the four gospels and what is most striking about him was the role he played concerning the body of Christ after his death. He used his influence to request for the body from Pilate not minding what the Jewish leaders would say. Alongside Nicodemus, they brought a mixture of aloes and myrrh to anoint the body of Jesus, he ensured the body was well wrapped and placed in his own never used tomb. There is no way we would talk about the story of the resurrection without referencing the silent labor of Joseph

Dear saints, we need to learn from this story, we may not be called into the five-fold ministry but we can still play vital roles in the kingdom. We can use our influence to promote the kingdom and to impact the body of Christ. Today we don’t have the natural physical body of Christ but we have the Church, the organic body, we must use our wealth, influence and connection to preserve and promote it. Those making laws should see to it that they promote laws that caters for the body, those that are wealthy should also see to it that the body is not naked or in need and men of influence should promote the cause of the kingdom. What many don’t realize is that, the position of influence as a director, CEO, Teacher, Boss, Parent, Husband, Politician or Mentor they occupy is to give them an opportunity like Joseph. We must ensure that as custodians of his grace, wealth and influence, we primarily use it for the body. May the Lord grant us light.
