13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Words of the Ministry:
We began looking at the weights to leave behind and we looked at the matter of sin yesterday, today I would be looking at something closely related to sin and that is guilty and condemnation. The devil severally tries to give us the impression that God is not happy with us and neither is he satisfied with the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ, to actualize this, he severally brings back our past memory of wrong doings which we have repented of thereby trying to introduce guilt and condemnation. This he does knowing when we fall for his wiles, our prayers would be hindered because the bible says if we doubt our God would not hear our prayers (Jam 1.6-8), when such prayers are unanswered, the devil again uses the situation to further prove that not only have we not been forgiven but that God can’t answer our prayers because of our past and the degree of sin. We can from this analogy see why many believers feel defeated due to their ignorance.
It is therefore important that believers know the position of God concerning their sins and how to overcome the guilt and condemnation of sin. Out today’s reading teaches that Christ has forgiven our trespasses and has blotted out the handwriting of ordinances written against us nailing it to the cross. By this, our past sin is taken care of, it doesn’t matter if we or the devil are satisfied with it or not, when God says the price has been paid, all we need to do is believe it and give thanks. We have our redemption through his blood and even the forgiveness of sin (Col 1.14). Our day-to-day sin has also been taken care of by his redemptive work (1 Jhn 1.1-2). Jesus as our advocate lives to be the propitiation for our sins, the word propitiation means offering. By the once and for all death of Christ, his blood is eternally cleansing our sins once we repent.
Dear saints, we therefore must be careful not to fall victim of the temptation of the devil. The bible teaches our mind is a battle ground and the devil tries to take hold of it by suggesting the happenings around us is a pointer that we are not good enough because of our past. We must therefore remind the devil of the sacrifice of Christ; we must tell him that Christ has blotted out our past sins and he lives to be a living offering to God to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We must therefore leave our guilt and condemnation behind as our God see the blood and he is satisfied. We are to constantly plead the blood of Jesus over our conscience and remind ourselves that we are the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Cor 5.21). May the Lord grant us light.
