Today’s Reading: Gal 2:20

20.  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Gal 5:22 – 24

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Words of the Ministry

Yesterday we saw that we are God’s dwelling place. We also said that by virtue of God living in our Spirit, we can say the kingdom of God is within us. This brings us to another reality, which is that the very Christ in us lives the kingdom life bearing the fruit of the Spirit within us and living out this life outwardly as we corporate with him. In Mathew 5-7 we see a lengthy sermon where Jesus was teaching concerning the way those that have God in them should live, from the surface, we can easily conclude that its difficult if not impossible for anyone to fulfil those demands. When we read verses that says bless those that curse you, pray for those that hate you or turn the other cheek to anyone who slaps you, forgive as your heavenly father forgives you, we begin to ask ourselves if the Lord really meant those words. Immediately on realizing that not only does he mean those words, he also lived the life, we then begin to see our deficiency and need for help.

The kind of life the lord expects us to live is beyond what we can live, no mortal man could keep the ten commandments faithfully in the Old Testament but we see Jesus not only fulfilling it but surpassing it. We see Jesus living out the demands of God, his heart and choices were under the rule of God. In the Old Testament, for adultery to take place, a person must commit the physical act of adultery but in the new we realized that adultery included lust, we noticed in the new that murder included getting angry for no just cause and the angry person may be in danger of hell. We can therefore see that it was only God in flesh that could live the kind of life he wants us to live, little wonder he presented himself as the tree of life in the book of Genesis so that we can eat him and have his life. Following the fall, man tried severally to live this life but couldn’t. Thanks to God, Jesus has lived out this life showing us an example, not only that, Christ has entered into us through salvation to continually live this life within us.

Saints, from today’s reading, we see the reality of our experience, we were crucified with Christ and he lives in us. Thus life we live by faith. The reason many don’t live this life is that they don’t believe in the reality that Christ is in them living in them and therefore don’t see the need to corporate with him. The overcoming life over sin and temptation is already provided for, Christ has come into us to live out the live that pleases God. Our natural love, patience or goodness is sin, regardless of what we do we can’t please God. Only Christ can as with him the father is well pleased. What God expects from us is that we corporate with him as he rebukes us, challenges our heart and leads us. In Gal 5.17, we are told that the spirit and the flesh (our natural senses) war against each other and as we obey the Spirit, we would find life, experience the reality of the kingdom life. We would be bearing our fruit in season like the psalmist said concerning the righteous. We would indeed find help in time of need. May the Lord grant us light.
