3  Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

4  Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.

Words of the Ministry:

This week we would be looking at the matter of our homes. How God depends on our home as the building block of a righteous society. We will all agree that every society is made up of families and the prevailing character of those individual homes eventually becomes the general attitude of the society so when we say a society is evil, violent, corrupt and ungodly, it is only because the majority of the homes in that society have those attitudes. It is therefore a serious and delicate matter especially for the Church as we are the light of the world. We are the salt of the earth and God is specifically depending on us to dispense righteousness to our society by being a living example of a proper home.

Whenever a new wedding is conducted for believers and a new family is born, I believe heaven has a sigh of relief as God depends on such new homes to promote his agenda. So, as we desire a righteous society, we must look at our home and ask ourselves, if our society is made up of husbands, wives and children like ours, what kind of society would we have? We see God placing specific criteria on the family of intending bishops and deacons (2 Thim 3.2-13). The failure in the home of such leaders would eventually affect the church and bring accusation to the Church making people believe righteousness is not a possibility. Verse 13 and 14 particularly says if a bishop cannot rule his home righteously, he can’t be trusted with the Church.

Dear saints, the matter of the home bothers God a lot as it affects our society and gospel preaching. Less work would need to be done if every Christian home mirrors the Life of Christ. From today’s reading, we see that a man whose home is under the control of Christ would indeed rest and can be said to be blessed indeed. In other words, his fear of God that has affected his wife and children qualifies him as the blessed one and not necessarily the amount in his bank account.
