Theme: Kingdom Invasion (5) 4th January 2023
Topic: Jesus Restoring What Adam Lost
Memory Verse: Mat 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Today’s Reading: John 3.15
1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Words of the Ministry:
As we come into the New Testament, we see John and Jesus preaching the message of the kingdom. John coming on the scene said repent the kingdom is at hand (Mat 3.1-2), Jesus also in Mat 4.17 preached the kingdom was at hand. Jesus sharing the gospel with Nicodemus In John 3, Nicodemus asked about the kingdom, Nicodemus described it as Miracles power and authority being exhibited by Jesus but in verse 3 Jesus called it its name, the Kingdom. Jesus said no one can have this kind of experience if not born again. In verse 6, Jesus said except born of water Baptism and of Spirit he can’t. In other words, those that would enter must be born of water and the holy spirit. We don’t just enter we are born into it. Notice in the Old Testament, to be a king you must be born into the family of the king, i.e a prince, so like wise to be a priest you must be born a Levite. You can’t come from another tribe and be a king or Levite.
In Luke 17.20-21 Jesus said the kingdom was already within them, in their midst. Here Jesus was referring to himself as having the kingdom within him and him being in their midst. That reminds us of Jacobs dream which we said was a shadow of Christ as the ladder that brings heaven to earth (Jhn 1.51). From Jesus response to Nicodemus, we can therefore say to be born of water and of the Spirit is to see the kingdom of God. As we see the great commission given to the Apostles, Jesus instructed them inMat 28.19-20 to go baptsing the unsaved preaching the good news to them, this we see Peter doing in Acts 2.38-39, inviting the people to repent, be baptized of water and receive the Holy Ghost, the meant he was inviting them to enter the kingdom and to be an extension of heaven on earth as God’s ambassadors. As we consider the prayer of Jesus in Jhn 17.14-15, we see him praying to the father not to take the disciples away but rather keep them spotless in this world. That is a great contrast to our theology as we normally dream of leaving earth to go to heaven but Jesus on the other hand wants us on earth to further his kingdom invasion mandate.
The bible refers to Jesus as the Last Adam (1 Cor 15.22) and the actual father of the new covenant, he is the promised seed of Abraham to bring the promised blessing that man lost in Adam Gal 3.16,29, we should take note that believers are all seed and not seeds, he is the head and we the body, if he is the king and we are kings, if he is a priest we are priest. We may then ask, what was the blessing that Abraham looked unto but came through the Jesus, it was the Holy Spirit (Gal 3.14). By this promise, we see a restoration of not only the kingship and the priesthood. Remember the bible said in Mat 4.8, the devil promised to give the authority of the kingdom to Jesus but in Mat 28.18 Jesus said all power has been given unto him, what Adam lost he had regained (Col 2.15).
