Words of the Ministry:
The bible is a wonderful book, the closer we look into it, the more we realize God has a goal and a purpose, all the things he does is for his glory. As we look into the subject of Godly parenting, we would be seeing that even God is in need of properly brought up children. Godly and proper children are not just a need in our society but also in God’s plan for man. I intend to consider a few examples form scriptures to show us that God too has a need.
The first example I like to consider is Abraham. Abraham is referred to as a friend of God and a particular story in Genesis chapter 18 captures it, the account said while God intended to destroy Sodom, he said it won’t be right for him to go ahead without telling his friend Abraham who would be a father of nations because he would train his children and household to obey him (Paraphrase mine). We see here a man who God loved and was willing to give him children not just because he prays but because God knew he would train his children in a Godly manner which naturally would make the will of God done on earth, that’s quite instructive, we can see from this example that God saw in Abraham a man that would meet his need for a Godly seed and for that reason blessed him with uncountable children.
Another example is Hannah, in 1 Sam. 1(Please read) the bible records the account of Hannah the wife of Elkanah who was barren for several years because God had not given her children, in verse 11 she cried in bitterness of soul making a vow that should the Lord give her a son, she would return him to the Lord as a Nazarene for priestly service. In verse 20, the Lord gave her a son as she requested. We would from the passage notice that the sons of Eli who ordinarily would have been made priest at the demise of their father were wayward (1 Sam 2.12-17) and God was in need of a Godly seed that would replace Eli at his demise, so when the Lord saw Hannah’s bargain of giving him a son for his service, he gave her a son, by this we see Hannah meeting Gods need of a priest for his service.
The last example I like to highlight is Samson the son of Manoah, Samson was given to his parent as a seed for God’s purpose to free the Israelite from the 40 years of bondage under the philistines, for this reason an angel of the lord was sent to Manoah’s wife who was sterile and barren, the angel gave her a promise from the Lord that she would have a son and the son would be greatly used of God, for this reasons, the mother was to avoid any strong or fermented drink, the boy must be made a Nazarene and he too must avoid all forms of strong drinks (Judges 13.1-5). We see from the three examples that Children are not just to make their parents happy or to show to the world that you are not sterile, rather it is to render a service unto the Lord hence the need for Godly parenting. Do you know that every child born is an indestructible soul that would stand before God in the day of Judgement (Rev 20.11-20)? Saints of God, as we raise our children, do keep in mind you are rendering a sacrifice unto the Lord. May God grant us light.
