3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
Amen, this week our life capsule would be centered on Godly parenting, like all our devotionals, we would spend the week on this subject hoping the Lord would in his mercy use this medium to heal our homes, prepare the heart of intending parents, correct those that are in error and strengthen such areas that are according to scriptures. The memory verse says we should train up a child the way he should go and when such children grow up, they won’t depart from it. What a duty, in other words, the bible is saying the life your child would live tomorrow is determined by the way you train him or her today, so success, failure and excellence in marriage, business, human relations and even walk with God of our children is greatly affected by the training of the parents. Today our memory verse says, Children are a heritage, the word heritage could also be used as inheritance or gift. God gives children as a gift to parents and the bible also says it is a reward, this may seem contradictory, how could it be a gift and at the same time a reward. No it’s not contradictory as we would see within the week and even from this passage, when the Lord gives us the gift of children and they are brought up rightly, the result becomes a reward to the parents. The passage says they are like arrows, and parents with such children that can be referred to as arrows in the hand of the quiver can be said to have been rewarded as they would stand against the enemy at the gate. The implication is as the demands of aging comes up in future, you can be rest assured you have a solid defense. The matter of parenting can never be over emphasized as the bible talks a lot about it, the new testament church considers the children of intending elders or deacons before they are ordained into service. It was so important that if a man had unruly children, he was not permitted to lead the church, so we can say children upbringing is a mini test of suitability for God’s work.
Many todays are busy doing the work of God not noting the perquisite for such service is their children. An average mother today spends better part of the day at work and the evenings in the Church not minding God’s inheritance, they claim they are serving God but neglecting the seed of tomorrows Church. Many fathers too after the day’s job prefer to go hang around in gardens where they socialize or watch football not minding their children, such fathers think all they owe their children is food and school frees, saints of God, the bible says train. To train is beyond giving instruction or food as we would see within the week. it’s time to turn a new leaf dear parent, may God grant us light.
