Words of the Ministry:
Dear saint today as we proceed in our lesson on Godly parenting, we like to remind you that in the week, we looked at children as an inheritance from the Lord and a reward to the parents. By this, we said God gives us children as a gift and when we train them up in accordance with the will of God, we reap the reward of a properly brought up child. Many today are sorrowful over their children because they failed to train them and that is the reward for their failure. We proceeded by also saying the children that God gives are not just to make us happy but to meet God’s need, we cited examples like Abraham, Hannah and Manoah. We did say proper brought up children is an asset to God in this age and time. From today we would begin to investigate the how of Godly parenting, how do we do it, amen.
It is an obvious fact that children learn from what they see than what we say, that is where many believers fail, we prefer to give instruction and use the rod which of course has its place but we major on the minor as strokes of the cane may make the children behave in a particular way while they are still under your roof or within the same environment with their guardians but immediately they have an opportunity to leave that environment, the only thing that remains in them or constraints them is how they see their parents live and not necessarily what they said. I like to use an example of children spending time reading their book, most parents go the way of instructing children to read, they cane them to do so and even stop them from playing and watching television to make them read, but the same parents never read in the presence of their children, they don’t read any material even as little as a newspaper. The implication is when you send your children to read at every instance of provocation, they begin to see their books like a punishment especially because you don’t. The reason they prefer movies or football to reading is not farfetched, it is because they have discovered that when either or both parents watch movies or football they seem happiest and they too want to be happy.
From our memory verse we see an account of a man called Timothy who was a spiritual son to Paul, Paul commended the faith in him which he first noticed in the grandmother, then in his mother. So we can see that the example Timothy saw really affected him even in his youth. Saints, our life style really matters, we cannot be a disrespectful and arrogant wife and expect your daughters to be kind and gentle neither can you be a violent and stingy man and expect your children to be loving, little wonder many parents today are suffering because all they taught their children is stinginess. It is commonly said that your today’s wife would end up behaving like her mother in future because her mother was her best example while she was young. The life you live before your children today would affect their future, if they are poorly brought up, they become dysfunctional, when a man hits his wife at all times, the children would start by hitting their younger ones and neighbors and eventually they would be a torn to their partners in future, please watch and pray.
