Topic: Samson’s Ministry and his Carnality (1)
Today’s Reading: John 15:5-8
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. NIV
Words of the Ministry:
Samson began his ministry with the evidence of the power of God (Judg 13.24), he singlehandedly killed a lion and his fame spread far and wide. During that time, Samson began to go against his Nazarene vow, he started by eating from a dead animal (Judg 14.5-9). Samson ate honey from the Lion he killed with his bear hands, he also gave his parent some. This was against his concentration as he was not to touch the dead talk more of eat from the dead. This is a type of many believers engaging in a carnal relationship with the unsaved. Today we see a lot of Christian living off their unsaved friends, some even allow themselves to lust after the opposite sex, they cannot deny the wrong decisions and ideas that come from their unsaved family member and friends, today some believers engage in sexual immorality to keep their job or secure a contract. A number of believer are living on the resources of an unsaved member in the church while some churches are sponsored by unbelievers.
Despite this, the bible recorded that Samson stilled moved in power juts like many todays still do miracles, signs and wonders, they prophesy and do great and mighty works despite their carnality. Same was the situation in Corinth, the saints lived in immorality but they still operated the gifts of the spirit. Samson went further by throwing a party and invited the philistines, naturally such party involved taking strong drink which again was against Samson’s Nazareth vow but he still didn’t repent because he kept experiencing fame and the power of God seemed to increase as he singlehandedly killed 3000 men with the jaw of an ass and when he was thirsty God miraculously provided water. Many are like that today, as the word is coming, instead of repenting, they would argue that I ministered and 3000 souls were saved, the blind see, the deaf hear and even the dead are raised in our meetings and I have testimonies to share of God’s supernatural answers to prayer.
Samson’s case got worse just as the bible says a little leaven, leavens the whole lump. Samson became gift deceived, he not only broke his concentration of touching the dead and strong drink, he now went into a prostitute (Judg 16 1-3), even after the immoral act, he pulled the gate of a city, and held it up on his shoulder. That was never heard in history, Samson despite living in sin was doing the impossible. May we not loose guard because of mere gifts of the spirit. Samson’s assessment of himself was the fame and mighty deeds but heavens assessment was his life. Saints, how are you assessing your walk with God, is it by your membership strength, financial status, fame and followers on social media etc? none of these matter before God. If we don’t bear fruit, he would cut us off the vine, may God grant us light.
