10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we began to look at the matter of sonship and I attempted to draw a relationship between we believers being children of God and sons of God, generally we can say all the children of God are his sons but for the purpose of this study we are drawing a distinction as seen from scripture, the matter of growth in life, we said as we mature in life, we are being led by the Spirit of God, we are no longer Children but sons of God and we therefore have the right to be partakers of Jesus’ inheritance as Joint heirs. Paul in his writing differentiated between the mature and the babes, he said the babes were carnal, they couldn’t take meat but depended solely on milk, the basics of Christianity, the babes were characterized by malice, envy and other works of the flesh 1 Cor 3.3-9.
The bible makes us to understand that beyond the new birth, God intends that we grow in life, to become mature in life as the many sons of God. This we can see from today’s reading, God gave gifts to men, ministry Gift of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers, this gift were for the building of the children into sons, it was for the growth in the body so that the Church would be a crop of sons pleasing to the father. In other words, what will please him is a sacrifice well pleasing like Christ the unique son (Matt 3.17), for this he made the sacrifice of bringing many sons to Glory (Heb 2.10). God that expects us that as we get saved and grow in life, we present our bodies an living sacrifice which is holy and acceptable like Christ.
Dear saints, as we see into the heart of the Lord, we come to realize that God had a goal, a goal of sonship to bring many sons to glory. In Rom 8.28-30, we see that the destiny of the saints is to be like Christ, that was one of the reasons of incarnation, to show us what a proper man should be. God is therefore not satisfied with our new birth experience, he wants us to grow by eating the Lord, by dwelling in his word and bearing hardship, then we would be partakers of his divine riches in Christ Jesus. Many saints bother about not enjoying the fullness of Christ, they fell it is a matter of partiality, God choosing to bless some and neglecting other, they are wrong not realizing that certain blessing come only by growth in Life. In Gal 4:1 “Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all”, Here we see that except a child grows to become a son, he would not enjoy the privileges of sonship. May the Lord grant us light.
