Words of the Ministry:

Today we intend to examine some of the benefits of having a healthy family altar in our homes especially as it concerns our children. We learnt yesterday that family devotion is a time set aside by the family to have a corporate worship of God. As we look into the matter, we see that especially for our children, it gives them a good example of prioritizing God in their lives. knowing that children learn better by example, the best way to preach about the indispensability of God is to rise up and commune with God early In the morning with the children being a part of the meeting.

When our children see us pray, they learn to pray, when they see us read the bible and apply it in the day’s teaching, they learn to do the same. Children also learn new choruses and ask several baffling question. The simple act of committing a matter to God repeatedly during our family devotion and getting answers days later builds a strong faith foundation in our children and soon enough, they too would learn to pray expecting an answer from God. The family devotion is a place to speak blessing upon our children, an avenue  to shape their day and destinies, a place to give Godly counsel as we answer the complex questions they have based on their daily experiences.

Family devotion is also a place to teach love as  our children see us pray for our family, friends, supposed enemies and our leaders, they too would understand the workings of love, forgiveness and prayer, that is what it means to train up ones child. It is to be an example in living. As we see the account of Abraham, God said he would give him a son because he knows he would train his children and household in his ways (Gen 18.19), so we see Isaac following the steps of Abraham his father, he also built an altar to God (Gen 26.25), a place of worship and fellowship.  So we see that our devotion to God and willingness to raise Children after his commands could also prompt answers to our prayers.

Dear saints, from today’s reading, we see an example of a young man called timothy, his account said he learnt the holy scriptures from his mother and grandmother, he grew to become a man of God and a companion of Paul, we can see that indeed the little drops of family devotion really helped in the eventual shaping and upbringing of Timothy. That is what we lose when we choose to go our way, doing things like the unsaved and prioritizing everything else but God. Many children from Christian homes are a direct opposite of the bible Christian because of this missing link. It is never too late to start, prayerfully commit yourself to having a proper family altar today and God would see you through. Shalom.
