Memory Verse: John 6:35
And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. NKJV
Today’s Reading: Matt 16:13-19
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven NKJV
Words of the Ministry
This week we would spend some considerable time on the person of Jesus, we would be looking at his several titles and their meanings. From the old testament to the new, there were several titles used to describe the messiah. Each of them having a specific purpose and meaning. In last week’s lesson, we saw Jesus as the seed of the woman (Gen 3.15). He was the seed of the woman promised in genesis to liberate mankind from the shackles of the devil. This was fulfilled at Jesus’s birth as he was a product of the Holy Spirit and Mary the mother of Jesus and we saw why this was so, it was so to ensure he was free from the sin of Adam and at the same time he was qualified as man to die in place of man.
We notice that no title was given to Christ as a mere name but to fulfil a part of his ministry. As we journey this week, we would be looking at some of the titles and the fulfilments in our days, as this would help us to maximize the benefits of the messiah. We see from today’s reading that as Peter realized by revelation that Jesus was the Christ the son of the living God, it leads to him being blessed and the Church being blessed. There is a blessing to every truth as revelation gotten from the Lord in his word as the bible says he has hidden this several truths from the wise and revealed it to his children (Mat 11.25)
The bible gave an account of Jesus in Mathew 13.53-58, that when he got to his home country the people got offended in him saying isn’t he but the carpenter’s son and his mother Mary, that denied them from having the full benefit of Jesus’ ministry. We can again see that a proper revelation of who Jesus is would help us enjoy better the benefits of the new testament realities. Join us within the week as we journey through scriptures considering some of the names and titles of Jesus and the implication on our walks with him. Bible in One Year Revelation 6-8.
