Words of the Ministry:

Today we continue with our lesson on giving, yesterday we saw God’s example to man, He (God) gave his only begotten son to undeserving man, he did it sacrificially out of love. Love being the nature of God was expressed through his act of giving. We saw that God gave even when man didn’t see the need and despite knowing that not all men would believe. Today I intend to look at God’s ownership right that all things belong to God and especially for believers, whatever we have or own, we are but stewards unto God, we must give an account of what has been kept in our custody.

From the air we breathe, the parts of our body, the brain, our health, children, business ideas, money and family, all belongs to God. The bible teaches that he (God) gives the power of make wealth (Deut 8.18) and if not for his love we would have been consumed (Lame 3.22). Many forget it’s by the grace of God that they earn and own earthly things and as a result they are puffed up giving themselves the glory that belongs to God. When we acknowledge our source as God, it humbles us and giving to God and those around us becomes natural. We must realize that we are but custodians and we would give account of all the Lord has given to us.

The bible encourages us to give but we that is not because God is in need or hungry rather it is an avenue for us to show our love towards God and men. It is a means of worship, it is a way to overcome the pride of life, stinginess, and covetousness. Giving has a lot of organic benefits as it reveals our idols and the more, we find it easy to give, it is also an indication of how much we are detached from this world. We see examples like the rich young ruler who couldn’t follow the Lord because of his earthly riches (Mat 19.16-22). Many todays find it difficult because of the idol of wealth, the focus they had towards God has been shifted because of material wealth, they now have confidence in their bank account.

Check with your experience, how is your walk with God since you got a better paying job or since you got an improvement in your financial status, have your prayer and study life not dwindled because of your current income? That is why Jesus taught that we should lay our treasures in heaven and one of the ways is to give to the needy, the less we have confidence in earthly wealth, the better for us and the more we depend on God. We are but custodians and saints must desist from allocating glory to themselves when they give to the needy, we see a lot of this on the television and on social media even among pastors, there is nothing you have that you have not been given and there are individuals that have done more that you have done and still do not have because it is God that gives power to make wealth. Amen.
