Words of the Ministry:

This week we would be looking at one of the controversial teachings of the Bible and that is the matter of giving or offerings. We trust the Lord to shed his light as we study the theme within the week. During our study, we may come across some aspects of the teaching that contradicts the practices of our local Churches, while we believe we are all learning, I trust we would consider the matters raised prayerfully and stick to what the bible really teaches. The matter of giving is as old as the book of Genesis, we see God rewarding men for their acts of their worship towards him using their animal sacrifices, we also see God rewarding men for their acts of sacrificial giving and kindness towards others. We intend to look at the subject considering the whole revelation of scripture and what giving entails to a New Testament believer.

We see in the New Testament that God gave his only begotten son Jesus as a sign of love for man. The bible teaches that God loved humanity and the man he loved had been lost to the devil, in need of redemption and regeneration. He therefore sent his son to die for man., that act freed those that believe from the bondage of death and hell. Today many are saved and enjoying the riches of that event. God did that not only because he loves us but to also show us an example that we may love others sacrificially. Man from a natural perspective was not worthy to be saved, the thought in the heart of man was evil continually, man always chose violence and sin over God but God, rich in love and mercy looked beyond that to save mankind.

The first thing we notice is that the message of salvation is that of love and sacrifice, the death of Christ on the cross was God giving his only son to express love and sacrifice for a dying world. We can therefore say that for giving to qualify as biblical giving, it must be out of love and sacrifice, we don’t give only because people deserve it, neither do we give because the individual realizes the weight of our sacrifice or because we have more than enough, some may not even realize the need for the sacrifice but we give because we love God and we love men, we give sacrificially because God showed us an example. God loves a cheerful giver but beyond our giving, our motive and attitude really matters. The bible teaches Christ died for the world but not all realize it or are even willing to embrace salvation. Nothing should deter us from giving, not the attitude of the receiver nor the people around us. Join us within the week as we explore the theme biblical giving.
