Theme:Power of Positive Confession (6)
Topic:The way of Victory (2)-Reckon yourself dead
Memory Verse for the week: Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof
Today’s Reading: Rom 6.11-13
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
1Co 6:15
1Co 6:15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
Words of the Ministry
Yesterday we saw the first step to overcoming the traps of negative confession, today I like to talk about the next step which is we reckoning that we are indeed dead. Many saints need to consciously remind themselves that they are dead hence the need to carry the cross daily. What the devil does to tempt many into negative confession is to prompt them to act independent of God, there are made to use their body and in this case their mouth loosely without reference to the actual owner. Jesus speaking in the gospels said whosoever would be his disciple must carry his cross daily, by implication it is the prove of our deliverance from the old man, it is to remind us that we are dead and we have been bought with the precious blood of Jesus. Our mouth as we learnt forms a better part of our destiny and the more reason it must be managed according to God’s way. The bible says no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isi 54.17), while that is true, the big question is what about the weapon you form against yourself with your speech. The solution therefore is to remind yourself that you are indeed dead and your body now has a new lord, the Lord Jesus Christ.
So we see from both readings that the believer is to reckon himself dead because he can, he is no longer a slave to sin. Th believer is being told not to yield his body to sin because he can say no, the victory of the cross is true but we need to consciously cooperate with the Lord as he won’t force his will on us. In 1 Cor 6.16 we are explicitly told that the parts of our body belongs to Christ, they are the members of Christ and must be treated as such if we want to maximize the benefits of the new life. James talking about a related matter said concerning the tongue in Jas 3:10 that Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. We must remind ourselves that we are indeed dead and Christ lives within us having the Lordship of our mouth.
