Words of the Ministry
The bible gives us an account of the creation of man, man was created in the image and likeness of God having three parts namely the spirit, soul and body (1 Thess 5.23). With the spirit, man was meant to contact the spiritual world especially God and to have fellowship with God who is Spirit, with the soul he was to contact the psychological worlds and with the body contact the physical world. Unfortunately, the created man fell by yielding to the temptation of Satan, the old serpent. This made man an enemy of God in his spirit, soul and body (Rom 5.12,Eph 2.1,Col 1.21, Gen 6.3, Rom 6.12).
This created man fell short of God’s glory, to restore man, God made a promise to Adam and his wife Eve that the seed of the woman, would bruise the head of the serpent. The devil not having a full understanding of this went after the seed of Adam and Eve, he tried to influence the nature of Cain to make him a wild man, by this he was sure he couldn’t fulfil the prophesy. When Satan realized Abel feared God and he thought he might be the promised seed, he prompted Cain to kill his brother Abel (Gen 4.6-8) hoping that would stop the prophecy, he continued same plot through the ages but little did Satan know that the expected seed was not be from the union of a man and woman but a seed from a woman.
The new testament revealed to us the seed of the woman, our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the son of God born of a woman. Jesus came to fulfil the prophesy. On the cross of Calvary, Satan bruised the heel of Christ, that caused his death but to bruise suggests it was not final as Christ through his death on the cross was made sin for us (2Cor 5.21, that Judgement Jesus bore was Satan brushing his heel, though wounded, it wasn’t final as Jesus came back from the dead the third day to give us life abundantly (Jhn 10.10).
The seed of the woman, Jesus Christ in turn crushed the head of the serpent in three main stages, this began at the cross, that was where Satan was initially defeated “John 12:31-33:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.”
Secondly on his return, he would bind Satan and place him in the bottomless pit (Rev 20.1-4) and ultimately he would be cast into the lake of fire alongside his fallen angels (Rev 20.7-10). That would be the final fulfilment of the promise.
We as believers and the body of Christ are also fulfilling the prophesy as God has given us the power to trample on serpents and scorpions. We are to bruise the devil’s head anywhere we find it, we have the same authority in the name of Jesus and we are to ensure the devil is put under check anywhere we find him, Jesus said” Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19. You have the power, devil is defeated, Christ made an open show of them, triumphing over them in victory (Col 2.15).
