Words of the Ministry
Today we conclude our lessons on the reasons for Christmas, we have seen a number of reasons over the last few days. I like to conclude by stating another event that happened in history shaking both heaven and earth and which remains remarkable even in heaven today. That is the matter of incarnation. God became a man on Christmas day, halleluiah, that to me is something the whole creation including angels and demons can never forget. In 1 Timothy 3.16, it is referred to as a great mystery, the mystery of Godliness. Through this event and afterwards, God had remained on earth dwelling in man. Halleluyah, as you would remember during this lesson, I said the problem of man was twofold, first being that he ate the tree of knowledge and the second is that God needed to enter into him. We have seen how the birth and death of Jesus took care of the first, now we are seeing the second matter settled as the first God-man, Jesus brought God into man and since then God has been trapped in man.
As we read the bible from Genesis, we see God visiting man in the cool of the day, later man found a way to build altars when he had fellowship with God, that later became tabernacles and eventually physical temples. Although God visited man, he couldn’t abide in man, he could only come once a while. Concerning the physical temples, Acts 7.48-49 says God doesn’t dwell in temples made with hand. In John 4, Jesus told the woman by the well that the hour has come where those that worship him do it in their spirit as God is not in physical temples. Jesus speaking about God’s chosen temple said concerning himself that the Jews should pull down the temple of his body and he would build it up in 3 days (John 2.19).
From Today’s reading, we see God’s chosen temple, our bodies. This became a reality as a result of the incarnation, God entered humanity, the human spirit became the dwelling place of God and since then both God and man have continuous fellowship in the Spirit, not like the days of Adam when God visited in the cool of the day or in the old testament where he visited in the temple once a month. Today we can say God is in our Spirit, we have been sealed with him and we are co-habiting as one. The birth of Christ made this available. Today we have the tree of Life in our Spirit. We are God’s embassy, his tabernacle and temple. Wherever we are God is. God is not only in heaven, he is also in us, Helleluyah, we are living temples.
