Theme: When God is Silent (6)
Topic: When God had spoken in the past over the issue
Memory Verse for the week: Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Today’s Reading: Mat 26:36-39
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
Words of the Ministry:
Today we come to another reason why the heavens may be silent over our request or situation. Many of us tend to be in situations where we go back to God over and over about a certain request especially when our flesh finds it difficult to take no for an answer over the matter or request. The story before us is that of Jesus who sought the lord thrice over his death on the cross. We would all agree that the Lord knew he was to be the ultimate sacrifice for the world before heading to gethsemane. John the Baptist called him the lamb of God, Jesus said he was a grain of seed that needs to be buried to bring forth many implying his death and in Mathew 16 he rebuked Peter for saying he wouldn’t die according to God’s will but we see same Jesus praying and asking the father if it was his will and if not, he wanted the cup of suffering to pass him by.
To understand this, we may need to concentrate on verse 37-38, Jesus said his soul was sorrowful and heavy, he had never sinned before nor had a broken fellowship with the father, he was about to experience what he hated the most, his humanity never wanted to go through with it but thankfully the Spirit strengthened him and he accepted the will of the father. The account never said God answered him yes or no rather he had to go back to the original instruction. The devil again tempted Jesus for the second time. The first was after forty days fast and the last major temptation was just before his death. In the first he was hungry and needed to meet a physical need and in the last he was again in need not wanting to have a broken fellowship with the father. Thankfully Jesus overcame the tempter and bought us salvation.
Dear saint, we have again seen another reason God is silent over our matter, many believe they can change the position of God because of their praying, the bible teaches all things were created for his will including you and I. We must be very careful not to fall into temptation. This is not a small matter, most of the request you approach God with, be it that of your marriage, business, education, relocation, job, ministry etc, are you sure God hasn’t spoken over it before and you are just asking because you don’t want the previous answer, when the Lord remains silent over a matter he has previously spoken about, all we need to do is go back to do his will regardless of whether we like what he said or not as God’s will is perfect and at the end would bring much glory to his kingdom, may the Lord grant us light.
