Theme: When God is Silent (7)

Topic: A sure word of promise

Memory Verse for the week: Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Today’s Reading: Joh 14:8-10

8  Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

9  Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

10  Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

1Co 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Words of the Ministry:

Today we come to the conclusion of our lesson on when God is silent and we have from the week’s study seen a number of reasons God could be silent over our matter. Some are positive while others are negative. We learnt that sin breaks our fellowship with God and repentance restores it. Today I like to consider the promise of the lord to be with us always even till the end of the world. I like to draw some light from the two passages in our today’s reading. In our first reading we see Jesus answering Philip and by extension other disciples. Philip requested that Jesus should show them the father after he (Jesus) said whoever has seen him has seen the father. Answering this, Jesus said the father was in him and what he did was through the father dwelling in him, although the disciples only saw Jesus but what Jesus was saying was that even if you don’t see God, he is still with me because the father dwells in my Spirit (Jhn 4.24). Their doubt, persecution or prevailing circumstances were mere facts subject to change, the only truth was that God lived in Jesus.

Jesus made promises in John 14.15-22 that he was to pray to the father to send another comforter to be in the disciples forever. He referring to himself said he was with them but would be in them (vs 17-18), as we juxtapose these verses, we then see that the way the Lord was to fulfil his promise in Mat 28.20 was to enter into the Spirit of the saints and that we see fulfilled in our second reading (1 Cor 3.16), the passage says the Spirit of God dwells in our Spirit and that we are his temple, his physical address on earth. Just like the disciples kept asking Jesus to show them the father despite the father being in Jesus, so is our case, the world may not see him, they may doubt or question our claims, you too may question it as we have seen such situations through the weeks study but I like to assure you that the promise is sure and certain, we don’t have to feel it or fall down, Jesus was in the womb of Mary and she didn’t fall down or vibrate under the influence of the Holy Spirit, so is our situation, we are to be moved by the word of God and not what we see or feel. Regardless of your situation or experiences, if the word says it, we believe it. Our experiences mean nothing, God’s word stands sure. May the Lord grant us light.

I look forward to seeing you at the November edition of Peniel, it would be a night of glory, a supernatural outpouring of the spirit as we feast on the theme: The Integrity of God’s word. Come with family and friends, come, and see Jehovah at work, shalom!
