Life Capsule for Today 14th November, 2024
Theme: When God is Silent (5)
Topic: It’s a matter of time
Memory Verse for the week: Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Today’s Reading: Gen 18:9-11
9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
Gen 21:1-3
1 And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.
2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
Words of the Ministry:
Today we come to another reason God may seem silent. We would be looking at the account of a man called Abraham who we normally refer to as a friend of God or a man of faith. Abraham was called by God at the age of 75, he was called out of his native country to a country he was to discover as he journeyed with God. He left his extended family and journeyed with his wife Sarah and nephew Lot. God blessed Abraham and made him several promises but the unique blessing he made was that he would have a son, Abraham kept hoping to get a son seeking God and getting several direct promises from God but he still had to wait till the appointed time. In Gen 15.1-4, God again promised Abraham he would have a son but Abraham still had to wait a few years and in Gen 18, God came to him in person and again promised him, this time him and his wife were stricken in age but God again said according to the time set for them, they would have a son. The promised lingered for 25 years until eventually God gave them a son called Isaac.
When we consider the story of Abraham, we see another major factor that makes us believe God is silent over our matter or has decided not to answer our prayer. God is a God of time and he does things according to his time and plan. Here is another aspect the saints must learn about God. As much as God wanted the world saved, Jesus couldn’t come in the Old Testament so likewise properly formed children can’t be born in 2 months. That waiting time for many is considered silence but God is working things out according to the time of life to ensure he is fully glorified. If many of us are asked, we would say we want our request answered now but check with your experiences, you would realize that all the requests that seemed to have come late in the past actually came in at the appointed time best for you. When next the devil suggests that after all God is still silent, tell him God is working it out at the appointed time. Our God makes all things beautiful in its time. May the Lord grant us light
