Life Capsule for Today                             7th November, 2024

Theme: Joint Heirs with Christ (5)

Memory Verse: Rom 8:17  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Topic: The lamb of God and the lamb of man

Today’s Reading:  Joh 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Gal 1:3-4  Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,

4  Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

Gal 3:13 -14 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

14  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Words of the Ministry:

Today we would be considering the sacrificial death of Christ on the cross and the dual purpose it was meant for, we saw a type in the old testament in our previous lesson where we said although Abraham had his son presented for the sacrifice, God did provide a sacrifice for himself as Abraham prophesied and the same sacrifice served the purpose of Abraham, the animal was killed in the place of his son, that led to God releasing the blessing on the father Abraham to his son Isaac. So Isaac as the heir entered into the inheritance when the sacrifice of God was killed even without his father been dead (Gen 22.16-19).

As we look into the New Testament we see the actual fulfilment of this event, the bible teaches that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom.3.23-24) and because of this sin, we are destined for  death as the wages of sin is death, in the old testament, the sinner presents a lamb as sacrifice to cover for his sin and to avoid God’s judgement, but in the new covenant, God in his mercy and love provided his son to die on behalf of mankind  in order to appropriate forgiveness for all that believe (Jhn 3.16). so we can see that on the one hand, Jesus died for mankind to redeem us from death and eternal damnation.

The above is the first implication of Jesus death which is chiefly for man to satisfy the judgement of God. On the other hand, we would remember that God placed a blessing on Abraham and his seed and we have seen that the actual seed is Christ who is both the son of man and son of God. He as the actual heir of God was to receive a blessing from the father and because we are joint heirs, we are to partake of it but there is a problem as God cannot die so how does the heir inherit the promise, how do we enjoy the blessing of the spirit and every other blessing which is our inheritance.

To achieve this, just as God could release the blessing on Isaac after the sacrifice, Jesus died on the cross not only for man but on behalf of God who cannot die so that the blessing of the father can come on the heir, in Jhn 3.16 the bible said for God so loved the world that he gave his son, from this verse we see that it was God that gave the sacrifice and on the other hand we see that while the roman soldiers killed him on earth, Isaiah in a prophecy said he was smitten of God (Isi 53.4). That is the meaning of Jesus as the lamb of God, God provided Jesus as a lamb for himself.

What a glorious sacrifice, Christ died to redeem mankind and make us sons and at the same time he died on behalf of God, not for redemption but to release an eternal blessing on us, that was why he said it was expedient for him to go (Jhn 16.7), by going he meant death and resurrection so that the promise of the father could the received, that promise is the Holy Spirit, the actual blessing on Abraham and his seed .
