Words of the Ministry:

We have been seeing a consistent decline in the life of Saul, a man chosen to be king from the last tribe of Israel and the least clan. Saul, as we saw earlier was a man who honored God and the man of God, he was humble and stood to defend the people of God. As we have noticed, a negative change began when he became king, we have seen a steady decline from who he was. We saw in previous lessons how he stood with the people against God, how he assumed the office of the priest and how God exposed his heart. In addition to all of the previously mentioned flaws, Saul in Chapter 15 again disobeyed God, God told him to utterly destroy the Amalekites but he chose to preserve the king and some choice animals.

When Samuel rebuked Saul, he initially lied he obey God, when he got exposed, Saul made excuses instead of repenting, he further said it was the fault of the people as they chose to keep the animals to worship God. In this instance we see Saul not only disobeying God but being unrepentant when confronted rather he is passing blame on others. Saul was more bothered about his reputation and the opinion of men than pleasing God, He severally asked the priest to walk with him to save his face. Again, we see a Saul who initially was humble, hiding himself when he was pronounced king. Now that God has given him the kingdom, he has changed drastically.

Dear saints, as we read the sorrowful retrogression in the life of Saul, I like us to be conscious of the decline as everything seemed right until he got the throne. Many today, their throne is a job, marriage, money, fame, growing Church, new car, house or power. Check with your experience, has your devotion to God, his word and his servants increased or declined with your achievements. Are you more conscious of the opinion of men above what God wants, have you forgotten how God took you from nobody to where you are now, do you repent at his rebuke of just laugh over it passing lame on others. Do you now believed you have achieved a lot and don’t need God? Simple indicators are your responses to the rebuke of the word and your conscience, the rebuke from a Godly counsel, your prayerlessness and no bible study attitude and the way you procrastinate repentance, may the Lord grant us light.
