Topic: The Incarnation of Jesus
Today’s Reading: Rom 8:2-8
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we saw the evil Satan did to man through the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We saw how Satan did not only cause Man’s disobedience but how he (Satan) entered into man, making man his expression in the body, the body having its own choices which we call the flesh. By that singular eating, Satan became one with mankind, he now had an entry into man making humanity the children of disobedience. God was still outside man as man chose the tree of knowledge over the tree of life. The situation of man became so bad that if he had eaten of the tree of life in that would have further corrupted situation, he would not be redeemable as he would eternally be bad so God prevented man from the tree of life (Gen 3. 22-23) while he sought another way to redeem man through the incarnation of Jesus Christ.
The incarnation is God coming into humanity, putting on sinful corrupted flesh. So God as Christ decided to put on the corrupted flesh as we read in our today’s reading. Although there was no sin in him as he was born of God and was a seed of the woman but he had to put on sinful flesh with Satan in it to enter into humanity. He was in the likeness of the flesh of sin. We see an illustration of this in the old testament as a brass serpent on the pole, the serpent was a type of Christ (Jhn3.14), when Jesus was on the cross he was like the brass serpent putting on human sinful flesh without sin just as the brass serpent did not have the poison of the serpent. After God put on the man corrupted with Satan it became easy to destroy the works of the devil. The devil must have felt he had overcome man by entering into man but never knew man became a trap God would use to destroy him.
In Heb 2:14-15 we read “14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”, Through incarnation, the corrupted man with Satan in him was crucified on the cross. Christ destroyed the devil on the cross and as a result the devil is scared of the cross which is for man an instrument of deliverance and for the devil an instrument of death. The bible says in Gal 5:24- And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” The instrumentality of this deliverance is the cross so the enemy within man that had control over is now outside man. Following the death on the cross was a resurrection in which the crucified man was raised without Satan in him. The resurrected man now has Christ in him as his content in his spirit. We can therefore say the new creation man now becomes an embodiment of Christ. Amen. Join us tomorrow as we look into the implication of this and the ongoing battles for our soul through our choices.
