Today’s Reading:Gen 3:6-10
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
From the account in Genesis, we see the first couple, our ancestral parents disobeying God and eating the tree of Knowledge. Today we intend to look at the implication of that singular act as it not only affected them but is still affecting believers today. On the surface, one may think the couple disobeyed God but as we saw from yesterday that the tree of knowledge is a representation of Satan, it introduces death into mankind. The account said they ate the fruit, the fruit had the life bearing seed. The implication of that is they allowed the devil to enter into them. By eating the form, the forbidden tree, they allowed the devil to enter into their body. Note that man is tripartite, having a spirit soul and body. By entering into man, he entered into man’s body introducing death and transmuting it into sinful flesh. So by eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, man became an embodiment of Satan in his body. Paul referring to this said in Rom 7.20-24 “20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
We can see from the case of Paul that another entity, the devil was in charge of his sinful flesh, the sin here is a personality that had dominion over the human race, little wonder in Rom.6.14, we learnt that through our victory as a result of the new birth, sin shall no longer have dominion over us. We therefore see that sin which is the nature of Satan is a personality that has rule especially over the unsaved. When man ate of the tree he became an enemy of God, he left his original neutral state to be evil and one with Satan, his flesh led his decisions, he was out rightly damaged and only good for death. As a result, God chased him out of the garden with a judgement of death over him until the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Saints when we see the unsaved, we are not just looking at a man that engages in one sinful act or the other, rather we are looking at an embodiment of Satan, a captive of the devil, a man whose life choices is determined by what the devil wants through the instrumentality of his flesh, he is like an incarnate of the devil. He is a captive needing help. He need to die to be free from that situation, he needs to experience the deliverance of the cross. When we see them like that, we would pray for them we would love them, knowing they are slaves to sin. May God grant us light.
