Topic: Jacob: A Story of Divine Transformation

Text- Rom 8:28 -30

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Words of the Ministry

Throughout this week, we have been considering the life  of Jacob and drawing several parallels to our lives, we have seen how many of us are today’s Jacob, how we depend on our human intellect to bring God’s promises to pass, how we lie, cheat, compromise etc to achieve what God promised us only to later realize we never understood what God meant and all we did was opposite God’s ideal plan to actualize his promises.  Like Jacob, we soon realize that the best of our effort and strength without God can only bring us sufferings and many sorrows. God on the other hand in his infinite wisdom would confront us with several challenges to ensure we come back to Bethel. Bethel meaning the House of God, is the Church today, God has placed us in the Church so that we can learn of him and grow to become like him through the many ministries like apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors an teachers,  our several dealing and experiences, like Jacob’s  is a ladder placed before us with which God is calling us to come up higher.

Todays reading talks about God goal which is to bring many sons to Glory, to achieve this, he brings before us a lot of experiences which the author of Romans calls all things, all things include the daily good and bad, the promotions and the negative situations, the challenges in marriage, business, school and at work. Our calling is not limited to justification as many think. God in his infinite love wants us not only to be forgiven but sanctified, transformed, and eventually glorified like his firstborn son Jesus. Our attitude towards these several experiences should therefore be, Lord have your way, let me have more of you, amen.

As we read 2 Pet 5-8, we see that we must be deliberate in our cooperation with God, the author said we are to add to our faith, goodness and to goodness, understanding and to understanding, self-control and to that endurance, godliness, mercy etc. We can therefore conclude that our organic growth of becoming is not exclusive in the hands of the Holy Spirit as we must corporate with him to arrive as without that, we would never grow to maturity. The thigh of Jacob was broken, his natural strength was replaced by his reliance of a rod, eventually he was named Isreal meaning a prince with God, a price with God just as we are destined to be, we are meant to be the many sons of the King of the world, the God of glory. May the Lord help us to corporate with him in our daily encounters, amen.
