Topic: Faith grows by hearing God’s word
Bible Reading: Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Rom 1:16-17
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would begin looking at the first way of building our faith and that is by hearing the word of God. Hearing God’s word is the way into the kingdom and the way to live the kingdom life. We got saved through gospel preaching, as we listened to the word, faith grew in us and we believed. The word of God therefore is a fuel to build our faith as we listen to the word, it helps to shape our ideas and renews our mind, replacing it with God’s opinion. Overtime as this continues, our view, opinion and lifestyle become like that of Christ, doubt and unbelief become things of the past and we can easily walk boldly to the throne of Grace knowing the promises of God are sure.
One of the unfortunate things that can happen to a believer is to live on without the word of God. Every child of God must be given to bible reading and study both personal and corporate because in it, you have the gospel, the good news described as the power of God and a necessity to live the Christian life. The bible severally encourages us not to forsake the assembly of the brethren as some do. Fellowshipping with other saints is a major avenue to grow our faith. We must see the word as a treasure, a building block and food for our Spirit. Jesus responding to the devil said we shall not live by bread alone but by the word Mat 4.4, in Jhn 4.32, Jesus told his disciples he had food they don’t know, the food is the word of God, it brings nourishment to our Spirit, Soul and Body.
In Heb 4:12, the bible speaking concerning the word said: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. As we study and hear the word, we become more loyal to God, overcoming the flesh become easy, our loving fear of God grows, the bible describes this as wisdom Pro 9.10, such wisdom is traceable to the word of God 2thim 3.15. We can therefore see the importance of the word to our overall growth and development especially our Christian faith. May the Lord grant us light.
