Topic: Faith grows by meditating on the word of God.

Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we emphasized that faith grows by hearing the word of God, we said the word of God is food as typified by Jesus and it is therefore necessary that we spend quality time with the word is we want to attain an overcoming faith. Today I like to proceed with the matter of how faith grows by commenting on the place of meditation. Meditation is a matter that is now pushed aside in today’s church, it is been negatively tagged with evil spirit and soul travel whereas God was the first to initiate the idea by giving instruction to his children to meditate on the word. From our today’s reading, we see God instructing Joshua that the word he reads from the book of the Law must be meditated upon day and night for it to bring the necessary result.
What then is meditation? In simple terms it is to brood over a matter for a prolonged period of time and have a mental picture of the possible outcome. Meditation in the negative is what is called worry. To better understand what God means that we meditate day and night, I like to illustrate with a matter of indebtedness that has overstayed and it causing embarrassment in the neighborhood coupled with continuous treats, let’s assume the agreed payment date is tomorrow and from the look of things there is no possibility of raising such money, the debtor begins to worry, pondering on what he/she could do or say and the treats of the creditor, the debtor begins to imagine the several possible scenarios that may play out and if not managed, it may result in evil dreams or high blood pressure. Same is meditation but in the positive light, when we ponder on the promises of God it gives confidence and Joy and eventually a sound mind (2 Thim 1.7). It so powerful that it give us peace and reveals the secrets of God to us.
Dear saints,, we must take the matter of meditation seriously, when we come across a bible promise or verse that strikes our heart, we must brood over it like a mother hen does over her eggs to crack chicks, we must imagine the several results and possibilities of what the word can do, we must replace our negative fearful thoughts with the ideas of God, we must do what the bible calls renewing our mind by taking the text of scripture, turning it to images and playing its possibility out in our mind. As we do this, we would realize we are on our way to success. What was previously fear to us becomes faith and the resultant effect is a miracle. Take for instance the above story, if the person instead of worry lays hold on to the verse that says God shall supply all my needs (Phil 4.19) and begins to meditate on it, the fear is downplayed and replaced with faith and God would make a way either by providing his own way, paying through someone or touching the heart of the creditor and if all fails the negative result would have little or no effect on our relationship with God.
