Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we saw the old covenant type of the atonements, we learnt that though animal sacrifices were made, they weren’t powerful enough to blot away out sin as it just covered the sin temporarily. We also said while the animal sacrifices covered sin it couldn’t purge the conscience of the people; it was an outward ritual while their inward condition was left untouched. All the rituals and sacrifices were made in anticipation of the reality, the lamb of God, Jesus Christ.
Jesus came as the fulfilment of the demands of God’s justice, he is the seed of the woman that was promised in Genesis to Adam and Eve (Gen 3.15). Because all mankind has sinned and every direct descendant of Adam were all guilty, no man could pay the sacrifice of sin for another, so while animal sacrifice was inadequate because animals were lower than man, human sacrifices too could not suffice because all men born of mutual relationship of both parents sinned in Adam, secondly even if it were possible, each man would have to pay for himself and that still meant death, hence the need for a seed not from sinful man and secondly a blood that would be eternally powerful.
Christ made an atoning sacrifice by the offering up of his blood Romans 3:25. Just as it was done in the Old Testament, we have been sprinkled with the blood of Christ 1 Peter 1:2. The only remedy for sin is the shed blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ (John 1:29). The blood of Christ refers to the violent, voluntary, substitutionary death upon the cross for men. The “blood of Christ” reveals the significance which His death bears for sinful men Rom. 5:9. It is a once-for-all accomplishment. We have “redemption” through His blood (Rom. 3:24), “propitiation in His blood through faith” (3:25; 1 John 4:10), “justified by His blood” (Rom. 5:9), “peace through the blood of the cross” (Eph. 2:16). The death of Christ has affected our reconciliation with God. God now resides and have fellowship with man in the spirit 1 Cor 6.16-17.
