Theme: Ruth (3) 10th March. 2024
Memory Verse: Rom 10:11
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” NKJV
Topic: Ruth shook off the opinion of men
Today’s Reading: Ruth 2:11-16
11 And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before. 12 The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.” 13 Then she said,”Let me find favor in your sight, my lord; for you have comforted me, and have spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your maidservants.” 14 Now Boaz said to her at mealtime, “Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed parched grain to her; and she ate and was satisfied, and kept some back. 15 And when she rose up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. 16 Also let grain from the bundles fall purposely for her; leave it that she may glean, and do not rebuke her.” NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we attempted to paint the situation Ruth had to go through on entering Israel. We related that to what many persons go through after salvation, we said some experience persecution, suffering, rejection and sickness like never before. We did say the Lord knows about it and it is working out a greater glory in and through us. Today I would shed some light from chapter two of her life. Ruth asked Naomi to permit her to glean the field, she was willing to work and raise some income and food for both herself and Naomi. This was the beginning of a new chapter in Ruth’s life as in the course of working on the field, she happened to work on Boaz’s field who was a relative of the Elimelech her deceased father in-law.
The account said as she worked, the servants of Boaz noticed Ruth’s attitude towards work, her loyalty, humility and commitment. Soon enough no one cared that she was a Moabite as her attitude had overshadowed her nationality. When Boaz came he noticed the same attitude and had to ask who she was, on realizing she was Ruth, Naomi’s daughter in-law, he again favored her. To Ruth surprise, she never knew that all her dealing with Naomi in the foreign land were noticed by many, she was surprised that Boaz knew so much about Her. How she left her past and wholly served the God of Israel, how she didn’t transfer the aggression of her daily frustration to Naomi, how she was well behaved as a true widow not flirting about saying she is free to live the way she wants.
Saints, this is a matter to deeply consider, we learnt yesterday that our suffering is for a moment but many are suffering today not necessary because they are being persecuted by the unsaved or treated unjustly by the church rather it’s because they have a terrible attitude, their character is so unbearable and that’s why they seem not to find favor, not with their husband, bosses, church or community. The bible encourages us to be a model in our daily living, our light should shine and bring glory to God. We shouldn’t be busy bodies in other people’s matter, we are admonished to be humble, be under authority and avoid immorality. The prolonged suffering of many is due to their character. In Ruth’s life, soon people forgot she was a Moabite as all the evil associated with Moab was washed away as she clung to the teachings of Jehovah. She was well behaved and that gave her favor before the rich and the poor. Many todays pray from Church to Church asking for God’s favor through men but they don’t enjoy the favor because of their character. Check yourself, are you a victim of your character, has pride, unbridled tongue, love of money, laziness and immorality, lying closed that door of favor. Could you be the weapon formed against yourself? May the Lord grant us light.
