14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we began looking at the theme, being born again and emphasis were made that God had an intention before creating man. God’s goal was to have sons in his image and likeness that would match him in nature and life. We also mentioned how the fall of man affected our forefather, Adam. Today we would be looking more closely at the the portrait of the unsaved to better make us understand why we must be born again.
After the disobedience of Adam and the fall of man, God in judging the serpent and Eve made mention of the word seed which meant the descendant of both the serpent and the woman. While many understand Jesus and eventually the saints as the fulfillment of the seed of the woman, what they don’t realize is that the seed of the serpent aren’t snakes nor only demons but also men (Luk 10.19). Yes, unsaved men are the seed of the serpent. So as the seed of the woman are a different class of men born of a woman fullfed through the birth of Jeus through Mary and the eventual formation of the Church, the seed of the serpent are all men born of Adam who never believed in the true God or get saved through the redemptive work of Christ.
As we read through the New Testament, we see John the Baptist referring to the multitude as brood of vipers (Luk 3.7), also in John 8.39-44 we see Jesus telling the Jews who claimed they were the seed of Abraham that they were he seed of the devil. As we read Mathew 12.34, again we see Jesus calling supposed teachers of the law who appeared religious as a generation of vipers. All the above examples point to the devil as the source of their life. When Jesus talked with his disciples concerning his death, Peter rebuked him saying the fathers will would not be done, Jesus turning to Peter said get thee behind me Satan, again we see the unsaved Peter although walking with the Lord and close to him, till then Peter was still a seed of the serpent called Satan Mat 16.23.
Dear readers, we have seen from the word that you are either a seed of God, born from above or born naturally from man. As seed of God, you are God’s children and as natural unsaved men you are the seed of the serpent. Now you know why many hate the Church of God, they fight the gospel. You now see the reasons why they don’t like to hear about Jesus. It is because they are the seed of the serpent fulfilling their part as prophesied in Genesis 3. They may be religious like the pharisees, have the vocabulary of the Church, handsome and charming, kind and given to hospitality yet they are serpents. The key to move from being the seed of the serpent to the seed of God (Jhn 1.12-13) is to be born again, born into God’s kingdom through his Spirit. He that is born of flesh is flesh and he that is born of the spirit is spirit, this are two different sources with two different destinations. Check yourself, are you a seed of the serpent or a seed of God, Shalom.
