Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we started considering the theme, the lord is my shepherd and we began by asking if you are a sheep to the shepherd, we saw the relationship between the sheep and the shepherd stating that it was the responsibility of the shepherd to provide for the sheep while the sheep on the other hand was meant to submit to the authority of the shepherd, acknowledging God’s ownership right and lordship. Today we intend to consider the next phase of our walk with God as his sheep and that is how God makes his men. Yes, many are saved but still need to understand how the shepherd makes the sheep a sheep indeed (Rom 9.6).
The account said the Lord made the sheep to lie down in green pastures and beside still waters. Green pasture is a large edible field for a sheep, in human terms we may say it is answered prayers in areas like marriage, business, carrier, health etc and still water means the provision is stress free. To understand this, we must bring to mind that David was comparing his walk with God with the imagery of the shepherd and sheep. So in David’s life, becoming a king over all, living in affluence and drinking still water, that is having peace and rest was not a small matter, it was a matter that cost him, several years of dealing.
We would remember that David although chosen by God to be king had to face a lot of battles, it started from his immediate family to the palace with Saul and then to his children. David had to deal with the consequences of his sin, for his atrocities a large number of Israelites died, he even lost his sons at different occasion, all of that was the way the Lord brought him to still waters and green pasture. It was through the rough path of the cross. We see in David a man testifying of the goodness of God after he was made a sheep, his choices were crossed and then he allowed the lord to lead him his own way and path, little wonder he was called a man after God’s heart. David was a man who paid the price, he endured God’s discipline and at the later path of his life we could say David ate from green pastures and drank from still waters.
Saints, we are the type of the sheep in the fold of the shepherd today, we must realize that although it is the will of the shepherd to get us to green pasture and still waters, our natural disposition may be a hindrance to it. God still need to use the instrumentality of the cross to make us submissive to his will. As much as the lord loves us and has made provision for us, we can’t enjoy such provision if we still live by our will. For us to locate the pasture we must be willing to be lead, we must obey the voice of the good shepherd. Are you self-willed, full with your ambitions and desires, do you even wait on God to seek his leading or you believe in trial by error, are you a sheep indeed or a goat in sheep clothing? May the Lord grant us light.
