Words of the Ministry:
Amen, this week we would spend some time on the most popular psalm in the bible, Psalm 23, many learnt to memorize this Psalm even from primary schools. It is a Psalm of David centered on the relationship between God and himself. The psalm is of great importance as we can see that looking forward, we the church as its fulfilment. The bible clearly teaches that Jesus is the good Shepherd (Jhn 10.11), and consequently we are his Sheep (Jhn 10.27). As we look into the book of Psalm 23 we would be drawing some light which is applicable to our Christian walk as sheep in the fold of the shepherd.
David started out by saying the Lord is his shepherd. The implication is that he acknowledges the ownership right and authority of the Lord over his life. The ownership right and authority happens to be the first prerequisite to have a shepherd sheep relationship. The bible said in 1 Cor 6:20 “20 For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”. God’s ownership right is the first requirement for us to be his sheep. While majority want to eat at a pasture full of green grass and they want a table set in the wilderness before their enemies, the first thing to look out for is, am i subject to the shepherd, does he own me, am I under his rule and authority.
As a shepherd, the daily welfare of the sheep is his primary concern and this he has promised to do. In Matt 6:31-34, it reads “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. NKJV. From this scripture we don’t only see an assurance of provision but also a commandment that we shouldn’t worry as the Lord would meet our needs be it physical, spiritual, material, financial, medical etc but the question is do you believe, can you trust and obey, is the Lord your Shepherd or do you have some human ideas as a backup plan should the Lord fails. Join us as we explore the riches in this Psalm within the week, shalom.
