Words of the Ministry

Today we intend to look at a parable on forgiveness, in Mat. 18.23-35 (please read), the Lord Jesus responding to Peter’s question on the number of times we need to forgive gave a parable of a servant who owed so much that he could never pay, the worth of his debt would have required him and his entire family to be sold. He pleaded with his master and was forgiven. The same servant went out and imprisoned a fellow servant like himself who owed a tiny fraction of what he owed his mater, on seeing what happened the other servants reported the issue to their master, the master was angry, withdrew his forgiveness and committed him to tormentor until the debt is paid in full.

The above was a parable to portray the dangers of unforgiveness, by reading the story, we see that the first servant who was forgiven much but paid his fellow servant with evil exhibited a lot of satanic attitudes, first he was unappreciative and ungrateful for his forgiveness, he wasn’t merciful, he was proud and wicked. We can see what unforgiveness makes us, in some it leads to malice, wrath, slander murder etc.

From the parable, we would also notice Jesus in vs 35 referred to the master as our father, that is to suggest that despite God’s love for us, if we fall short of the demands of forgiveness, we would face same consequences. The account says when the master heard about the evil the wicked servant did, he was angry, withdrew his forgiveness and committed him to tormentors to punish him till he pays, tormentors from other parts of scriptures refer to demons and unclean spirit (1 Sam 16.14-16, Mar 5.5, Luk 13.11). To be committed to tormented is for the Lord to allow demons and unclean spirit punish you for the evil of unforgiveness. Many today blame witches and wizards, they accuse their co-tenants, friend and relatives of witchcraft attack, they claim they are the cause of their problem whereas their unforgiveness is the reason the devil has a foothold in their lives. They are self-afflicted because they have broken the hedge.

The bible is clear, if you don’t forgive from your heart (Mat 18.35), your heavenly father would not forgive you, in other words you would be guilty of sin and the devil would have his way with you introducing sickness and if you don’t repent it may lead to death. Dear saints, can you pay back the price Christ paid for your salvation? Regardless of the hurt, for your sake do forgive and you would enjoy the peace and rest of the Holy Spirit.
