Life Capsule for Today 29th October,2023
Theme: Why wait? (1)
Memory Verse: Heb 13:8
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. KJV
Topic: Life at Bethesda
Today’s Reading: John 5:1-5
After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
Halleluyah saints, this week I would spend some time on the account of the man who was healed at the pool of Bethesda, I like us to read the passage Jhn 5:1-15 to have a proper understanding of the passage as the passage is a type of the experience many believers have today. Bethesda in English means the house of mercy or flowing river. Same Bethesda was known by those around there as a pool for the sick, where the blind lame, dumb, and paralyzed were kept. A pool of mercy now became a pool for the sick. At Bethesda, the sick got healed one person at a time, once in a while. Bethesda was like the camp of the sick and troubled, it was a place to easily find a person that had a particular type of disease. The sick became so used to the pool that some stayed there for over thirty years, at Bethesda, the probability of being healed is very slim as only one person gets healed at the moving of the water.
I would be using Bethesda as a type of the Church, the Church is the house of mercy in reality (Rom 9.15) and in the Church, the sick and oppressed are to be healed. By the sick, I mean not only those with physical ailments but those with psychological, spiritual, financial and material needs too. Those oppressed by the devil (Act 10.38) as God had put him name and power in the church to undo the works of darkness (Phi 2.10). The Church today is populated by a large number of individuals waiting for the moving of the water, in other words, many are waiting for the moving of the spirit, it has become so bad that miracles have become seasonal and we give various excuses for why there are little or no miraculous intervention despite the several promises of God’s word and the resident power of the Holy Spirit (Act 1.8).
Saints, it is abnormal for the Church to suffer the same fate as the unsaved, we are blood bought under the new covenant promises of Christ, it gives God more glory for us to walk in the realities of the new creation which should not only affect our spirit but also our soul and our bodies. The bible makes provisions for trials as believers must once in a while face certain trials to grow in life, but it is not God’s will for believers to perpetually be at the mercy of the devil despite having found mercy. This week I like us to be examine our situation to know why we are where we are, to check if we are living optimally according to God’s plan for our lives, have we resulted to fate saying what would be would be? Many are even looking at the negative examples of others to comfort themselves. Keep a date with us as we consider how to activate our testimony, how to enjoy the full benefits of Christ in us and how to overcome the protocol of tradition and religion. As we study this theme within the week, we hope to learn how to live the supernatural life that brings glory to God. May the Lord grant us light.
