Life Capsule for Today                                                Date 17th October, 2023

Theme: Christ the bread of Life (3)

Memory Verse: John 6:58

58 This is the bread which came down from heaven — not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.” NKJV

Topic: Jesus, a type in the old testament

Today’s Reading: Ex 16:14-16

14 And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground. 15 So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. 16 This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: ‘Let every man gather it according to each one’s need, one omer for each person, according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent.'” NKJV

Words of the Ministry:

Amen, today we proceed with our lesson on Christ the bread of life. The Lord told the multitude that they followed him not because of the signs but because of the bread they ate the previous day but he advised them to seek the real bread that endures unto eternal life, not the kind of bread their fathers ate in the wilderness but the bread of life that leads to life eternal (Jhn 6.25-32). As we consider the account Jesus referred to in the old testament, we see a similarity between those in the old testament and the multitude in Jesus’ days. They both have a strong desire to meet their daily physical needs, not giving adequate consideration to their spiritual life. The background of our devotional states that the children of Israel grumbled against God and God decided to test them with bread called manner. All they needed to do to sustain their lives was to believe God for a daily supply and gather enough for that day and gather again the next day except for the Sabbath day.

We see from the account especially as the Lord began to draw some comparisons that God’s intention is for us to take Christ as our daily bread, we are to eat him and continue to eat him, little wonder the bible uses present tenses to describe our attitude towards feasting on the Lord. That immediately suggests to us that the matter of living by Christ is not something we start in Christ and then continue outside Christ, it is meant to be a continuous eating and feasting on a daily basis with each person having an omer of food for himself. We can’t live the Christian life for another, every man for himself, we must all seek the lord early while it is day. God in Exodus said it was to test their hearts, you may think how can such an easy and simple activity test ones heart but when we look at the simplicity of the gospel that it is by grace through faith, all we need to do is believe daily, we may just like the Israelites take it for granted.

The offer is the same but unlike the days of Moses when men labored for the physical food, God is today wanting us to eat Christ as our food to not only keep our bodies alive but also our Spirit. Jesus is not our physical bread but He is our Sustainer, and Giver of life. He is the Bread that is enough for all our spiritual needs. Through Christ, we will never go spiritually hungry, nor will we need to seek anything else besides the One who gives life because He is truly enough. Only through Salvation in Jesus Christ alone, is anyone satisfied forever. In John 6, we see Jesus meeting the physical needs of the crowd, and delivering the amazing truth that He always meets our spiritual needs through Salvation. A physical piece of bread helps end hunger for the time being, but Jesus being the Bread of Life ends spiritual hunger for eternity. Amen, please keep in mind Peniel October edition which comes up on the 29th of October, come with family anc friends.
