Theme: Christ the bread of Life (2)
Memory Verse: John 6:58
58 This is the bread which came down from heaven — not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.” NKJV
Topic: Jesus’ counter offer
Today’s Reading: John 6:25-29
25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?” 26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” 28 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him Whom He sent.” NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we saw an account of a large multitude following Jesus by foot into the desert, they gathered from different villages numbering over 5000 men aside women and children they saw miraculous healing, they saw signs and wonders and to top it all they were all well fed. It was a meeting like no other as both the word of God and physical food was shared. We drew some light from the sharing stating that the individual are a type of today’s multitude, they have several testimonies to share, they can talk about their healing miracles, their divine protection, provision and others. We stated clearly that a vast majority that are in Church have not met Christ, while they can celebrate the euphoria of daily bread and provision, they don’t really have a relationship with him. They are made comfortable by the pseudo gospel of it doesn’t matter preached in their various congregations.
Today we pick up same story from another gospel, the gospel according to John, readers may want to read from John 6.22-35. The account said the next day after the miracle of multiplication of fish and bread, the multitude again in search of Jesus went as far as Tiberias near where they ate bread the previous day and when they didn’t find him, they went to Capernaum, on seeing him they asked where he had been and Jesus exposed them saying the reason they are seeking him is because they ate bread and they were satisfied. He told them that they were rather meant to seek Jesus the true breads that came from heaven because he is the one with God’s seal and he is the bread that truly satisfies. Jesus further said he is not only the bread that satisfies but the true bread that a man eats and has life.
The picture here is to be used to gauge our life and living. We need to ask ourselves some pertinent questions, why are we seeking Jesus, why do you go to Church, why am I a Christian, what is the motive behind my prayers, why do I do evangelism, who do I sow seed or give an offering, why do I clean the church or serve in any department? Is it for the bread that perishes or for the true bread which came down from heaven. The Lord knows the motive of our services. Those around may see you as a faithful pastor or worker, but the Lord know it’s all for your belly, human recognition, and material gain. Many are trading like Esau; they are selling their birth right for a Mosel of food. Jesus is making a counter offer today, He said I am the bread of life, eat me and live, seek me with all your heart, seek first the kingdom of God and other things you are seeking would be added to you, may God grant us light.
