Theme: Christ the bread of Life (1)
Memory Verse: John 6:58
58 This is the bread which came down from heaven — not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.” NKJV
Topic: Bread in the wilderness
Today’s Reading: Matt 14:17-21
17 And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” 18 He said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children. NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
Amen saints, as we thank God for the new week may I firstly remind you of our once in a month meeting coming up today by 4pm, please keep to time and don’t come alone, it would be a time of refreshing in the prescience f our God, our thirst would be quenched, our eyes would be opened and we would indeed feast on the word.
Our theme for this week’s study is Christ the bread of life, we trust the Lord to reveal his heart to us as we look into the several implications of this theme within the week. It is very important you share the devotional and invite friends and family to like and follow our social media handles. The background of today’s passage is that Jesus held a lengthy teaching with a very large multitude in a desert far away from the city and when it became quite late in the day, his disciples asked him to send them away as the place was far from the city, it was getting dark and the people were hungry. Jesus knowing what he would do told the disciples to give them food to eat but the disciples said they had only five loaves and two fishes. Jesus requested it be brought, he prayed over it and the multitude had more than enough to eat. The account said there were about 5000 men aside women and children.
We would notice that the Lord saw a need in the lives of the multitude and immediately made an offer to provide for their need. From the account we would see that the multitude followed him from the cities majorly for their healing and Jesus had compassion and he healed them, I believe they never expected Jesus to feed them but Jesus went further to feed them bread and fish, he ensured no one left without being healed and been feed, Isn’t it wonderful how much our lord cares for even the multitude that don’t necessarily follow him because he is the Lord of their life, those that follow him to meet a need in their lives, the Lord met such needs. Those multitudes though healed and fed never believed in him nor his ministry and they were among the several that asked he be crucified.
Saints as a way of introduction into what the Lord has for us this week, I like to quickly say we have so many in the church today, who have lost their identity thinking they are now saved or heaven is pleased with them despite being unsaved because of the several testimonies they seem to have. Many todays look at their family life, their wife and children and conclude God is pleased with their living else they won’t have such a beautiful home, some, it is their job, their financial status, educational qualification etc. Many testify of the goodness of God forgetting that such has nothing to do with their salvation, a man might have all the riches of this world and be ordained in the church yet not saved. They fail to realize that the same God that gives the rain and the sun to the just gives same to the unjust. The distinguishing factor between Christians and the unsaved isn’t the material things that fades away rather the true bread, the true riches that we would be considering within the week. Dear reader check yourself are you in Christ or in the church membership register, do you speak the language without the life, is your baptism of repentance or just a water bath, is your measure of spirituality earthly provision or a changed heart? Shalom.
