Words of the Ministry
One of the virtues that suffering produces in the believer is endurance. The Christian Walk is described in scripture as a race and also as warfare. In both cases, endurance is essential. Paul encourages Timothy to endure hardness as a good soldier. This implies that hardship is not abnormal in warfare; rather, it is part of the training and engagement process.
Modern Christianity has often overemphasized comfort, but scripture emphasizes endurance. Without endurance, faith becomes shallow and collapses under pressure. James also teaches us that trials produce patience. This means that suffering is not wasted—it is working something inside us. Every trial carries a hidden assignment: to produce maturity.
Many believers pray only for escape from suffering, but rarely for strength within it. Yet God’s method is not always removal, but reinforcement. He strengthens us in the midst of pressure. Endurance is what separates emotional faith from mature faith. Anyone can rejoice when things are easy, but only trained believers remain stable under pressure. As we continue this week, may the Lord build in us the spirit of endurance that cannot be easily shaken.
